The Portals
Central elements of the following portals complement each
other resulting in a comprehensive information service relevant to physics,
which is presented by physicsportals.net:
pro-physik.de[1]
is an initiative of the German Physical Society and the Wiley
VCH Verlag GmbH. It covers a large range of information: news, journal articles,
links to research and research funding topics, studying physics in Germany,
information on the German Physical Society, as well as a physics shop.
A central element of pro-physik.de is the so-called
Findemaschine[2],
a search engine that allows searching websites relevant to physics.
Contents are also provided ordered by subjects. Some services such as full
text access are only available for registered users.
pro-physik.de is only provided in German.
The
Subject Guide[3]
of the
Physics Virtual Library ViFaPhys[4]
is a clearly organised, up-to-date compilation of evaluated and commented
Internet resources: Included resources are intellectually
selected. Scientists evaluate and characterize the resources. A
meta search engine[5]
allows simultaneous searching of selected databases. Thus, ViFaPhys facilitates
access to technical literature relevant to physics.
The Physics Virtual Library is a service of the German National Library of
Science and Technology. It is funded by the German Research Foundation DFG.
The German Konferenz der Fachbereiche Physik,
an association of physics departments in Germany maintains a
web portal[6],
which offers background information on the study of physics in Germany:
statistics, a list of German physics departments with contact addresses and
course of studies.
PhysNet[7]
collects information distributed worldwide on physics servers. Thus,
PhysNet offers a list of links to physics institutions
such as institutes and departments at universities, ordered by continent,
country and town. Scientific publications stored
on these distributed servers can be found by PhysDoc, another service of
PhysNet.
In order to demonstrate the
world of physics to the general public in Germany,
weltderphysik.de[8]
addresses anybody interested in physics such as young physicists
and their instructors, or media representatives. Content of weltderphysik.de
is contributed by the German Physical Society. The service itself is provided
by the German Bundesministerium für Bildung und Forschung.
weltderphysik.de is only available in German.
A list
of international physics portals[9] is provided by the Fachwelt Physik[10], a portal which
was constructed to provide information for scientific professionals. Fachwelt Physik
is an initiative of the Special Interest Group on
Information AKI[11] of the German Physical Society DPG[12]
and of the German Konferenz der Fachbereiche
Physik KFP[13], an association of physics departments in Germany.
